Fire Station Field Trip
|
November 19, 2008
Mrs. Keesee's kindergarten class made a fun and informative visit to the Smyrna Fire Station. The students were able to see a fire truck close up, even climb into the front and back cabs. We watched as one of the firefighters donned his fire-fighting uniform, got down on his knees, and encouraged the children to touch him. Another firefighter emphasized that under all that equipment, he was the same firefighter he had been before. A firefighter can look awfully scary to a five or six year old. What a wonderful opportunity to experience that firefighter, mask and all, in a non-emergency situation. | | Do you know that firefighters often sleep and eat at the fire station?! We were invited to tour the kitchen, den, bedrooms, and workout room of the fire station, but the most exciting part for many of the students was watching the firefighters slide down the pole!
